At every school, our educators go above and beyond to get students ready for their lives and careers from leading Kids on Stage, a renowned arts program, to partnering with local businesses to provide opportunities to learn in-demand trades.
K-12 Education Opportunities
Maury County Public Schools
With a staff of over 900 teachers and 500 staff members, Maury County Public Schools educates over 13,000 students every academic year. The district operates 22 schools, including elementary, middle and high schools, three unit schools and an alternative learning center.
The work of Maury County Public Schools is guided by the county’s community-formed Keys to College & Career Readiness. They also frequently partner with local businesses, philanthropists and community organizations. In Mount Pleasant, for instance, local businessman Jim Barrier worked with the city’s public schools to fund the arts program, Kids on Stage. Now expanded to schools across the county, Kids on Stage has fostered creativity and made kids excited to learn for over 20 years.
Private K-12 Schools:
Agathos Classical School: Classical school located in Columbia, focused on educating students in the Christian tradition and creating lifelong learners.
Columbia Academy: Christian school known for big-school opportunities in a small setting serving all grades on a historic campus in Columbia and extension campus in Spring Hill.
The King’s Daughters’ School: Special education school in Columbia, offering safe, supportive learning environment and promoting independence for students with developmental disabilities.
Zion Christian Academy: Evangelical, college preparatory school located in a rural setting between Columbia and Mount Pleasant and focused on “training hearts and minds for the glory of God.”
Columbia State Community College
With campuses in nine Tennessee counties, Columbia State Community College prepares students for a wide range of careers and equips them to make a living right here in Middle Tennessee. Columbia State partners with local schools and businesses to equip students for careers in a variety of industries, including:
Nursing, EMT/paramedic, radiology, respiratory therapy, veterinary tech and other health sciences
Industrial, HVAC and automotive maintenance
Computer tech and robotics
Welding and other skilled trades
Named the 2020-2021 Community College of the Year by the Tennessee Board of Regents, Columbia State has earned numerous awards for educational excellence. The college boasted a 94.8% job-placement rate among 2019-2020 graduates and enrolled nearly 5,400 students at the beginning of the 2021 academic year. They are also one of the area’s major employers and a vital part of the wider community, hosting a public art gallery, musical performances and other cultural offerings.

Maury County Public Schools operates a robust College, Career and Technical Education program, centered on giving students opportunity to explore careers. Including everything from agriculture and advanced manufacturing to human services and finance, the program incorporates 57 fields of study.
Our county’s investment in and focus on career and technical education has a dual purpose. It creates work-ready individuals for businesses in Maury County, while equipping students with the skills they need for more desirable, higher-paying careers whether they plan to pursue college or certification, join the military or immediately enter the local workforce.
